Memories From My High School

A story of Your Peak Experience

Ken Wynn  Hyde School, Bath Maine class of 1983

I have 2 stories that I would like to contribute.  I hope this site and the stories to follow will show all students that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and staying/finishing school is the best option.  Socially and economically, graduating from high school should not be a goal, but an expectation.

Story 1:
I was a sophomore and had hit a slump.  Wasn't finding any good reason to be away from home at a boarding school.  This peak moment occurred when I has to write an essay for english class.  I wrote the essay for the class that was being taught by one of the toughest instructors at the school.  Henry Milton was a man who was very demanding.  He began to hand out the graded papers and said there was only 1 "A" given out in the class.  He asked everyone around the room to guess who got the "A".  The usual names went out, to which he smiled and said not this time.  When he handed me my paper, yes, I had received the only "A".  That was a changing moment in my life.  To this day, I still consider Henry Milton one of the most important influence's in my life.  He changed my attitude and let me know that I could perform at a level higher than O had thought before.  Thanks Hank, you were a difference in my life.

Story 2:
We were in a football struggle that had been tied 0,0.  I was playing defensive tackle.  Second down, the quarterback tried to pass and it seemed that he was throwing the ball right at me.  I knocked the pass do the ground.  Third down.  The quarterback decided to throw the same pass again.  This time I knocked the ball into the air and caught it.  I ran the interception back 55 yards and we won the game 7-0.  I was the hero.  It was a great following week walking through the halls and having everyone call me the high school hero.  Reading my name and seeing my picture in the newspaper was a great experience that made my senior year one to remember.
